Royals Take 2nd Place

After a heat-postponement last week, Louisville Cross Country had their first Sunshine League meet of the season Tuesday at the historic Pierce College course, which has been host to cross country races for over 60 years. Conditions were ideal for racing with afternoon temperatures in the low 70s, overcast skies, and a slight breeze.

Facing off against other schools Chaminade, Marlborough, and Notre Dame Academy, Louisville raced strongly and smartly to take second place team. Senior Jade Calabria cruised in to take 2nd place overall, and joining her in the top 10 were sophomore California Croll and team captain, senior Cristina Erskine in 8th and 9th. The team ran a smart, controlled first mile and moved up a collective 10 spots throughout the race. The varsity squad was rounded out by strong performances by junior Phoebe LaFrance, emerging freshman Nina Whitt, and sophomore Emma Brewer. In the JV race, first year cross country runners Michelle Spoeri and Darcy Mullane represented the Royals over the challenging course.
The Royals will return to Pierce College for their second league meet in a couple weeks, and again in November for League Finals, where they will have the opportunity to compete for the top 3 spots to qualify for CIF!
