How do you have a play with no stage, no actors, and no audience?
Students have submitted their audition tapes for Louisville's fall drama production (which has no official title, either). The production will be a collection of monologues performed virtually and edited together by director Dan Mailley.
The material will be drawn from a wide variety of classic and contemporary sources, though actors will have the chance to suggest their own material.
"The challenge of social distancing provides us with this opportunity to explore a new form of presenting so many interesting viewpoints and the words of many writers," Mr. Mailley said. "I envision a final project as a visual collage of sorts, the design of which will be provided by the Theatre Craft class and myself, art in support of each piece, backgrounds and music, all put together in collaboration."
The production, tentatively titled "The Fall Drama Monologue Project 2020," comes on the heels of a successful run of excellent productions by the Louisville students under the direction of Mr. Mailley. Recent productions of The Caucasian Chalk Circle, The Crucible, Twelve Angry Women, Under Milkwood, and The Lark have further established Louisville as the home of some of the best student theater in Los Angeles.
"There may be a few alumnae special guests as well," Mr. Mailley hinted, "in line with the celebration of Louisville's 60th Anniversary!"
