Cross Country races to the finish at League Finals
On Wednesday, November 6th, the cross country team traveled to Glendale to compete at Mission League Finals. This was the final visit to the Crescenta Valley Park course for our seniors, some of whom have raced the course 9-10 times over their high school careers.
The varsity squad faced some health challenges the week leading up to the race, but they held fast and united to the goal they set over the summer to advance to CIF. The race produced a unique scoring 5 for the Louisville pack, including freshman Phoebe LaFrance who improved her time on the course by over 2 minutes. The Varsity squad had a great day, coming away with personal records, season bests, and course bests, but finishing 4th behind Harvard Westlake, who had also brought their best on the day. Senior Kaydee Inouye was briefly challenged at the front of the pack, but came away with another dominant win over all of her competitors, earning Mission League MVP and a spot on the line at CIF Prelims in Riverside on Saturday November 16th.
The JV running royals had a HUGE day. They all finished with personal records or season bests, led by senior Emma Nicklaw, and freshmen Peighton Unger and Charlotte Song. Improving their last visit’s team score by 14 points, they raced well enough to challenge and displace runners from 2nd place finishers Marymount. The scoring 5 made up of Emma, Peighton, Charlotte, and sophomores Cristina Erskine and Shelby Greene, improved their team time from their last visit to the course by OVER 10 MINUTES! One of the many dramatic performances came from sophomore Saori Cochachin who improved her course time by a whopping 4 minutes.
The evening culminated with League awards and Louisville’s honoring of seniors Kaydee Inouye, Kristen Huber, Lizeth Ochoa, Emma Nicklaw and Chloe Maslansky. Our 4 year cross country athletes have laid a foundation of excellence and friendship for our returners to follow. Their dedication to each other and the sport is evidenced in the energy of the underclassmen to continue the tradition. And so they will!
