The alumnae informational interviews helped me get first-hand insights into health care careers I am interested in. I talked to doctors, pulmonologists, an OBGYN, researchers and Ph.Ds .They helped guide me towards which path I want to pursue and what lifestyles are intriguing to me. Talking to professionals gave me a look into careers I’ve never seen.

The Focus Program has taught me how to properly contact professors, mentors and experts in my field. I have connected with people who have helped me understand specifically what being a marine biologist would be like. I can reach out to them as I take courses and get closer to working in the field if I ever need any help.

While I’ve been in the Focus Program I’ve learned that my skills are transferrable – not just confined to one career field or job. I can use the movie editing skills that I’ve gained as a base for advancing my sports broadcasting career as well as for my community. The script supervisor who spoke with our cohort taught me how skills and jobs can be transferred to multiple industries.
