Louisville High School hosts a bi-annual Career Expo in St. Louis Hall. The professionals, including many alumnae, bring with them a trade-show atmosphere as they engage students in conversations about the excitement, challenges and educational requirements of their careers. This format allows students to browse the Expo asking questions, making connections and discovering new interests. Sr. Maria Goretti, S.S.L. of Louisville’s Guidance Department ensures that a wide range of fields is represented by both men and women for a broad and realistic experience for the students.

Alumnae who participate in the event enjoy their productive visit to their alma mater. Lynda Murray ’83 shared her Interior Design career with our students. She stated, “I was very impressed with the girls. I received GREAT questions… very articulate!!” Clinical psychologist Teri Maloney ’76 agreed. “The girls were great – very engaging and intelligent. I had fun!” Ventura County Superior Court Judge Patricia Murphy ’80 graciously found a substitute for the bench that day as she was “looking forward to returning to Louisville High School and pleased to participate.” Other Louisville alumnae in attendance have included attorney Shivaun Cooney ’94, author Kelly Brown ’84 and pediatric nurse Laurie Newton ’81.
“The girls asked some very interesting questions. Two of the students who want to be engineers were very familiar with Raytheon as they recently participated in our engineering event. I do want to point out that all of the girls were terrific. Naturally, I would not expect anything else.”
Mr. Barry Caires, father of Monica Caires '04, of Raytheon Space and Airborne Systems
The impact of the Career Expo on the students is significant and evidenced by sophomore Brittney Daniels, who discussed her medical career aspirations with Children’s Hospital nurse Laurie Newton ’81. Brittney will soon graduate from UCLA Nursing School and begin her career.
From writers and directors to FBI agents and an ob-gyn, there was something for everyone to explore. Louisville is grateful to all of our outstanding alumnae who participate. Please contact Sr. Maria Goretti at mgcrowley@louisvillehs.org if you would like to share a few hours of your time at a future Career Expo.
