Louisville High School, inspired by the Mission of the Sisters of St. Louis “to work toward a world, healed, unified and transformed,” is dedicated to providing a holistic education based upon the Gospel. Louisville High School is more than a secondary school; it is a Catholic center for learning within an atmosphere of spirituality, community and outreach. Although the learning primarily centers in college preparatory courses, it expands to include levels of education which call forth the full potential of every student. College preparation at Louisville encompasses the processes of personal development necessary to authentic understanding and creative application of knowledge. STUDENT BODY AND FACULTY

The student body at Louisville consists of approximately 500 young women in grades 9 through 12 who represent a wide variety of ethnic, economic, and cultural backgrounds. Admission to the school is selective. Generally 100% of Louisville graduates attend college directly after graduation with approximately 85% enrolling in four-year colleges and universities. The remaining 15% will enroll in two-year institutions with the intent of transferring to four-year programs. The faculty of 46 is comprised of Sisters of St. Louis, and lay women and men all of whom hold professional degrees in their fields. The average class size is 25.

In order to help our students understand that their education is not for themselves alone and to encourage them to become young women of courage and compassion, we require all Louisville students to complete each year a minimum of twenty hours of direct service and outreach to the less fortunate.

THE ACADEMIC PROGRAM

Students may take up to seven classes per semester. Please note that eight semesters of religious studies are required and are considered academic solids. Because the academic program is rigorous and because the school encourages exploration and a blend of academic and elective courses, the typical Louisville student will have five or six academic courses (including religion) and either an elective or a study period.

ADVANCED PLACEMENT

Louisville currently offers Advanced Placement courses in 15 subjects although not all courses are offered every year. Students must receive a departmental recommendation to enroll in AP courses and may be required to pass an entrance exam. Although the school does not limit the number of AP courses a student may take, we strongly recommend that students consider the overall rigor of their schedules as well as their strengths and aspirations when attempting these courses. Students who enroll in an AP course are required to take the AP exam.

Each spring, over 30% of the school sits for at least one AP exam. For the past five years, the percentage of students passing with a score of three or higher has been approximately 80%.

GPA AND RANK

The school GPA is weighted, giving an extra point for all honors and AP designated coursework from the ninth through the eleventh grades. All coursework in grades 9-11, including all electives, is used in the calculation. Mid-year grades include the seventh semester of the senior year.
Due to the small size of the senior class, Louisville does not rank its students.
