Fall Sports Recap:
Royals Teams Finish Strong!!
November brought an end to the fall sports season, as all of the Royals teams finished very strong.
Team Pages
The Field Hockey team (6-4-2) concluded its best season ever with a charge toward both the Sunset League and California Field Hockey Federation Championships. The Royals finished second in the Sunset League, beating Chaminade (2-0), Harvard- Westlake (1-0) and Edison (1-0) in the second round. From there, the Royals advanced to the playoffs. In the quarter-finals the Royals beat Glendora and advanced to the semi-finals. The team lost a hard fought battle to Newport Harbor to end their championship bid. The Royals will return 15 players for next season!
The Volleyball program continued an outstanding and spirited year. The Varsity Volleyball team (4-9, 3-7) finished strong by winning two of their last three matches, beating Notre Dame at the Spirit BBQ and sweeping Alemany on Senior Night. The JV Volleyball team, (8-8, 5-5) won three league games in the second round, beating Chaminade, Notre Dame and Alemany. The Frosh/Soph team, (10-4, 6-4) went 4-1 in the second round. The Frosh/Soph team provided the highlight of the season by defeating Flintridge Sacred Heart at home, a previously unbeaten team who had lost only one single “game” all season long.
The Golf team had its best season in ten years! The Royals swept Flintridge Sacred Heart and Alemany and concluded the league season with a stunning third place finish in the Mission League Tournament. This is the best team finish in ten years and saw senior Michelle Tellier (13th) and sophomore Giovanna Solano (5th) advance to Mission League Finals. From there, Giovanna qualified for CIF Individuals in Palm Desert, the first Royal to qualify in seven years!
The Tennis program concluded their second half of Mission League in exciting fashion. On Senior Night, the Royals played to a 9-9 tie vs. Flintridge Sacred Heart. Going to the first tie-breaker, “total games won,” both teams were still tied 75-75. This is a very rare occurrence. The final tie-breaker is a head to head, singles competition, featuring both teams’ # 1’s, playing one set to decide the match. With all eyes and hopes on her, sophomore Sara Conley defeated the Flintridge Sacred Heart player 10-6 to give the Royals the team victory! The Royals then closed out league with a victory over Alemany.
The Cross Country team had an outstanding league and invitational season, finishing 3rd at the Bell Jeff Invitational, second at the Santa Clarita Invitational and won their heat at the Mt. Sac Relays. At the conclusion of the league season, the team advanced to the playoffs at Mt. Sac. From there, the team advanced to the final meet by finishing 4th in their heat and 8th overall.
Great job and congratulations to all fall sport athletes, coaches and families!
Fall Sports Banquet Honors All Teams Under One Roof
On Sunday, November 11th, the Athletic Department hosted the Fall Sports Banquet in St. Louis Hall. For the first time in many years, all five fall sport programs were in attendance: Volleyball, Golf, Tennis, Field Hockey and Cross Country, which included the boys team from Crespi. All together there were nearly 300 athletes and parents present. The event was catered by Stonefire Grill and featured a sports video showing all teams in action. After the meal and video, teams headed off for their separate awards ceremonies. Thank you to the students and families who gave such an outstanding effort this fall.
