Integrated Learning Vision
In order to support and enhance learning, Louisville strives to expand the use of information and communications technologies by: utilizing technology to redefine teaching skills and the way students learn; maintaining online communication and access to academic information; maintaining a state-of-the-art infrastructure and hardware to support the increased demand for use; providing curriculum and technical support to faculty; and providing professional development opportunities to faculty about the impact of technology on how students learn.
Student Technology program: 1-to-1 access
Beginning in 2014, all freshmen receive a school-issued Lenovo Thinkpad computer for use both at school and at home.
All students will have a school-issued Lenovo Thinkpad by the fall of 2017. The Technology Program at Louisville addresses the growing demand for girls’ technology skills, organized access to schoolwork and resources, and creative/collaborative skills that develop critical thinking. The program builds upon the advantages Louisville offers as a single-sex environment and the benefits technology provides for girls as highlighted recently by the Higher Education Research Institute at UCLA. Read about it in our 1-TO-1 Technology Brochure.
Louisville web portal: My Louisville
Our school information system is fully hosted, meaning our data is securely stored, protected and backed up off-site. It is web-based, meaning users can access it from any internet-connected computer via a password. My Louisville is role-specific, meaning that every user gets access and information according to their role at the school: faculty, student, parent and alumnae. Available online information includes course pages, assignments, grades, attendance, electronic newsletters and group pages for Parents Guild, Dads Club, student clubs, teams, etc.
Campus Technology
All services and network infrastructure have been upgraded to accommodate the 1-to-1 technology program at Louisville. Fiber connection to the internet gives us upgradable upload and download speed. Wireless access points create secure and seamless wireless access to the school network from anywhere on campus. Projectors, document cameras, video and sound equipment are installed in all classrooms, and many classes also have interactive whiteboards. All English classrooms have 1-to-1 laptops, as do the classes of 2014 and 2015.
Faculty Laptop Program supports teaching and learning
Faculty all receive a school-issued laptop or tablet pc to support their teaching and productivity. Faculty use laptops for lesson development and delivery, training, attendance, grades, report cards, online course pages and communication with students, parents, advisors and administrators.
Online School for Girls
Louisville is a Charter Affiliate School with the Online School for Girls, allowing us to expand our regular, AP and summer course offerings.
Teachers and administrators from four independent girls’ school, each with over 100 years of experience teaching girls, formed the Online School for Girls (OSG). These educators’ belief in and commitment to girls convinced them that an online educational experience would be an essential part of the highest quality high school experience. Relying on research indicating that girls occupy online spaces differently from boys, and committed to independent school values of high admissions standards, small class sizes, and relationships as critical to the learning process, OSG began classes in the fall of 2009. Accreditation is expected in Fall of 2011, with UC course approval sought during the 2011-2012 school year.
