Department Philosophy
Through the activities of the Performing Arts Department, the natural needs for self-expression and creativity are encouraged and developed. These needs are nurtured in the hope that the student may increase awareness of herself and her environment, and in turn she may make a positive contribution back to her community.
The collaborative activities of the Performing Arts Department develop within the Louisville tudent a sense of responsibility to self and others, and the ability to work with others towards a common goal. The demands of working harmoniously together also necessitate developing patience and an attitude that is open to a vast array of ideas and experimentation. The disciplines of dance, drama, and music actively utilize the senses of sight, sound, and touch thereby stimulating self-awareness. This heightened self-awareness can, in turn, lead to self-expression. The developed self-expression can then lead to improved communication skills with the community-at-large.
