Academics

Louisville High School provides each of its students with a strong, carefully developed college preparatory curriculum. The course of study at Louisville has been designed not only to prepare students for successful college level work, but also to provide them with creative and critical thinking skills that will allow them to become constructive, contributing members of their community. All students at Louisville participate in a curriculum that meets or exceeds the entrance requirements for the University of California and California State University systems.

Jubilee Class Launches 1-to-1 program!

The Jubilee class of 2014 is the first class to receive a laptop with software tools for use both in the classroom and at home. The 1-to-1 Laptop Program at Louisville addresses the growing demand for girls’ technology skills, organized access to schoolwork and resources, and creative/collaborative skills that develop critical thinking. The program builds upon the advantages Louisville offers as a single-sex environment and the benefits technology provides for girls as highlighted recently by the Higher Education Research Institute at UCLA.  For more information:

ONLINE SCHOOL FOR GIRLS

Louisville is a Charter Affiliate School with the Online School for Girls, allowing us to expand our course offerings.Teachers and administrators from four independent girls’ school, each with over 100 years of experience teaching girls, formed the Online School for Girls (OSG). These educators’ belief in and commitment to girls convinced them that an online educational experience would be an essential part of the highest quality high school experience. Relying on research indicating that girls occupy online spaces differently from boys, and committed to independent school values of high admissions standards, small class sizes, and relationships as critical to the learning process, OSG began classes in the fall of 2009. Accreditation is expected in Fall of 2011, with UC course approval sought during the 2011-2012 school year.

Mock Trial Team 2009 LA County Champions!

The purpose of Mock Trial is to foster an understanding of the law and Constitutional rights through competition with other high schools. Members of the Mock Trial team are chosen by audition in the spring. Louisville's Mock Trial team has won the Los Angeles County Senior Division Championship eight times: '79, '80, '92, '94, '98, '00, '04, '07 and '09. Louisville won the California State Mock Trial Championship in 1993.

Robotics Team

This team is under direction of the Science Department. The team engineers the construction of a robot that is entered into competition against other high schools in January/ Febuary. The team won the First Robotics Laboratory Safety Award in '08, '09 and '10. Those girls who participate on the team are required to spend many Saturdays with their adult advisors constructing the robot and learning the physics of motion and the science of robotics. There is a fee charged for participation that offsets the cost of materials and entry into the competition.

CSF: California Scholarship Federation

CSF is an honor society that fosters scholarship, service and citizenship. Membership is open to sophomores, juniors and seniors based on semester grades. Students apply each semester by filling out the application form, presenting a copy of their semester grades and paying the five dollar application fee by the deadline. Currently, the juniors and seniors are applying using their June 2006 grades for membership in CSF.
Those who have been members for four semesters (one semester must be in senior year with senior grades) are awarded lifetime membership. This honor means they receive the CSF gold seal on their diploma, the CSF Lifetime Membership Certificate and this honor is noted on their official transcript. The LvHS Class of 2007 had sixty graduates who achieved the prestige of CSF Lifetime Membership.

National Honor Society (NHS)

The National Honor Society is a national student organization committed to the recognition of students for their scholarship, leadership, character and service. A student is invited to join NHS at the completion of sophomore year, after maintaining a cumulative 3.5 grade point average (GPA). After completion of a personal resume, including activities and awards, and the additional candidacy paperwork, the final selection for membership is based on an evaluation of the student's qualities by the Faculty Council. Candidates are invited to attend the Induction Ceremony and receive their NHS pin. To retain membership a student must maintain a 3.5 GPA at the end of each semester, attend scheduled meetings, and complete the required school service hours. Membership in NHS is indicated by a seal on the graduation diploma and is noted on all transcripts of academic work. A student will jeopardize her membership in NHS if academic integrity is breached.
