About Louisville

Louisville — a Catholic high school for young women — has something to offer its students that is unparalleled and rare. In today’s fast-paced world with its conflicting values, Louisville provides an environment of learning and growing that reflects the Gospel — teaching possibilities with the compassion of Christ and, in so doing, preparing its students for life’s opportunities and challenges.

At the very heart of Louisville are students, faculty, families and alumnae who support and firmly believe in an educational experience that stresses personal growth and achievement within a stimulating learning environment.

Developing the whole person — spiritually, intellectually, artistically, socially and personally — is the Louisville philosophy of education. Louisville is exceptional in providing small challenging classes with one-on-one attention, a wide-ranging arts program where students can discover and develop their talents, athletics and physical education that not only produces winning teams but healthy and disciplined individuals who know the value of sportsmanship, clubs and activities promoting community involvement as well as interpersonal relationships and along with Campus Ministry to encourage spiritual growth and leadership. Taken together, these varied didactic elements help girls reach their potential, and, in the process, become well-rounded young women.

"The Church gives thanks for all the manifestations of the feminine genius which have appeared in the course of history, in the midst of all peoples and nations; she gives thanks for all the charisms which the Holy Spirit distributes to women in the history of the People of God, for all the victories which she owes to their faith, hope and charity: she gives thanks for all the fruits of feminine holiness."

— Mulieris Dignitatem, Pope John Paul

Louisville’s philosophy of education is based upon the mission and charism of the Sisters of St. Louis, and is grounded in The Beautiful Enterprise: a timeless vision of “a world healed, unified and transformed” made possible through study, reflection and awareness of the earth and its needs.

Louisville High School has long been known for our outstanding academic record and we are proud to be one of the first high schools in Los Angeles to be named a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence by the United States Department of Education.

We offer our students an environment of learning and growing that reflects the Gospel – teaching possibilities with the compassion of Christ and, in so doing, preparing our girls for life’s opportunities and challenges.

But it is Louisville’s strong Catholic identity and very special sense of spirituality that really sets us apart. It is the foundation of the school’s rich tradition of educating the whole person: spiritually, intellectually, artistically, socially and physically.

We offer a full range of honors and Advanced Placement courses for our students and we have just recently completed a major renovation of our gymnasium, and added a new performing arts and physical education pavilion and four new classrooms. In addition, we have a state of the art computer center, computer-based science labs, a modern library, a video production studio, a dark room, a ceramics and sculpting studio and a seismograph connected to UCLA computers and research center.

Our highly qualified faculty boasts a majority of Masters and Doctorate degrees in their fields. We have four full-time and one part-time guidance counselors on staff to address the individual needs of our diverse student body.

Our graduates attend some of the top universities and colleges in the United States. Our grads are doctors, lawyers, educators, business professionals, lay and religious. They are wives, mothers, grandmothers, daughters, sisters and friends.

At Louisville we are proud of our holistic philosophy. We believe in developing the whole person, whether she be an athlete, an artist, an actress, a scientist or just a average teenager exploring her many possibilities. Our goal from the first day a student steps on our campus is to create an environment where she can feel secure and comfortable, to discover her talents and reach her potential.
