It was the ideal conclusion for the 5-foot-9 outside hitter, who was sidelined last season with two stress fractures in her back, only to return to help the Brahmas erase disappointments of three previous setbacks in the state tournament, including a runner-up finish to Orange Coast College in 2006. "It means a lot," Martin said. "Words can't even describe how much it means."

Amherst’s rookie class has the potential to immediately contribute to an already-impressive Lord Jeff roster. Berkley’s sister, Jackie, and Laura Hyman both stand six feet tall, and should add even more pop to the Amherst attack. Rachel Yorke is a talented, quick player who will serve as a defensive specialist, while Louisville High School's Erin Camp '07 can play as both an outside hitter and defensive specialist. Rounding out the first-years is setter Katherine Jordan, who will not only allow Heller to get valuable rest, but will also allow the Jeffs to run different options on offense.
